Amaryllis flowers

You know when Christmas is on its way when the familiar Amaryllis bulbs start appearing in the shops. However, amaryllis are also fantastic cut flowers.  Large and striking, just a few can create a fantastic arrangement. They also have the advantage of being very, very, long lasting. Just a couple of things to remember when keeping amaryllis flowers. Regularly trim back the stem to keep it fresh. Also a tip is to keep an elastic band on the bottom of the stem, as the stems are hollow and tend to split otherwise.  Amaryllis flowers are available at Bloomers up to Christmas and into the new year.

Avington Park Wedding 2011

Bloomers have once again been asked to provide the flowers for a wedding at Avington Park.  Avington Park is a beautiful period house set in magnificent parkland with the River Itchen flowing through its grounds. The venue has a number of stunning rooms including a library, an orangery and a ballroom, which all could be straight out of a Jane Austen novel.  The wedding theme this time is a series of romantic, cottage garden style arrangements. which complements the period style of the house.

This cottage style is achieved through the selection of some cottage garden favourites such as scented stocks, delphiniums and phlox. Hydrangeas and large roses further add to the style and ensure that the displays create a stunning impact within the scale of the room.

Summer is hotting up!!

As well as a superb range of flowers Bloomers also sells plants. Particularly popular are our large Chilli and Pepper plants. Place outside in a sheltered spot or in a kitchen they are great to pick your own when cooking a Chilli con carne or Curry. Be careful the Chilli's are hot hot hot!

Top tip - collect some of the seeds and place in a paper envelope (this will help them dry) Next spring sow the seeds in a pot with some multi-purpose compost. Peppers and Chillis like it hot and humid, so water well and secure a plastic bag over the top of the pot. Place somewhere warm and the seeds will germinate very easily. Once the plants have germinated treat like tomatoes, lots of water and tomato food.
